Masters Programming

Delta Deas Rowing Club is proud to row on the sheltered waters of beautiful Deas Slough, located at Deas Island Regional Park in Ladner, B.C. We offer year-round programming, experienced coaching, and accessible Learn-to-Row classes from April onwards, for beginner Masters (19+), as well as Para programming on request.

Masters

(don’t let the word intimidate you, we’re all continually learning new things in this sport! Masters is the term for adult (19+) rowers of all levels and abilities)

Learn-to-Row (LTR)

Your Rowing Adventure Begins Here!

You’ve probably seen us gliding across the water as you sit in traffic by the tunnel, wishing you were out there too. Well—this is your chance. At Delta Deas Rowing Club, we welcome everyone, regardless of age or fitness level. If you’re ready to learn to row, we’re here to help you get started.

Our small, personalized classes guide you through the fundamentals of rowing, including technique, oar handling, and boat care. Over six 2-hour sessions, you’ll begin on the rowing machine (ERG) and quickly transition onto the water in our stable, flat-bottomed training boats (1x and 2x), designed to help you build confidence from your very first strokes.

By the end of the program, you’ll have the skills and confidence to row independently and truly enjoy being out on the water.

And it doesn’t stop there. After completing Learn-to-Row, you’ll be invited to continue into our Novice Program—a three-month transition period with dedicated coaching at regular Masters practice times. It’s the perfect way to keep progressing, connect with other new rowers, and become part of our welcoming club community.

Ready to make a splash? The water’s waiting for you.

Row-for-Life

Our Row-for-Life program is a recreational rowing program with a focus on health and community building. We are extremely fortunate to have a number of on-water sessions available weekly (more in the summer months, fewer in the winter). Our coaches will create boating crew lineups for some of these sessions on a rotational basis. Members are welcome to choose their own crews on most days, although we’ve found great success with coach-boated practices.
On-water workout suggestions will be provided, as well as technical feedback if desired, along with training drills.

In the summer months, we run a Wednesday evening Adult Rowing League, which involves friendly racing, and a barbeque.

Our Row-for-Life members are encouraged to compete at regattas, although participation is completely optional.

Competitive Opt-in

After much discussion, it’s been decided that our community wants to stay united for most of the year. To allow our more competitive athletes the opportunity to train for regattas throughout the racing season, DDRC offers an “Opt-In” program, which will run concurrently with Row-for-Life.

Coaches will provide suggestions to Opt-In athletes for crew selection. For each regatta, seat racing will take place to determine the most competitive crew groupings.

Each session will follow a specific training program, which includes on-water workouts with technical feedback as well as training drills, video feedback, dryland training workouts, and suggestions for strength training.
